2011 New York Trip-Day 3 - 07/22/2011
I spent a lot of time driving I-20 through some part of Yellowstone. Just trees and more trees and more trees. I stopped at Ponds Lodge for junk food. They had some kind of home-made fudge. The clerk had just taken a box – telling me that he has worked there a week and could not resist the temptation any more. I asked him how it was – and he offered me a free piece. It was so good that I would have gotten some if I could have figured out how to keep it from melting before I got to New York.
It was fun watching a stream alongside the road – I think it was the Gallatin River. I first noticed it as a really stream. It would periodically split into two and then re-join. The further I went, the bigger the stream got. Every few miles I would see guys stopped along the road either sitting in lawn chairs and fishing or just standing up and casting. The river eventually got big enough to have rapids and I could see groups of rafters going down the river.
