2011 New York Trip-Day 4 – 07/23/2011 / 10:30 / 74555
For some reason I had thought that the Little Bighorn Battlefield would be a big detour.  I was wrong.  Ten miles out of Hardin it was a mile off of the road.  I believe this is the first battlefield I have ever visited.  It was very sobering to look at and walk on the beautiful fields, knowing how many thousands of soldiers and Indians died so brutally on it.  It is also a cemetery.  I was walking along trying to read the headstones.  The few that were legible often just said “Soldier died” and gave the date of the battle.  Then I saw the back of one of the headstones that read “Wife, died 1969”.  I scratched my head trying to figure out how what was going on.  It turns out that this is not just a burial site for Little Bighorn.  I saw headstones for WWI and WWII also.
