2011 New York Trip-Day 5 – 07/24/2011 / 75199 / 5:30 pm (6:30 local time – no Central)
I decided to pack it in early today. I pulled into the Super 8, and then connected my netbook to their WiFi to check rates. When I went in, they wanted to charge me $13 more than their website. So I said I would be back in 5 minutes. I went back out to the car and booked my reservation online. I went back in to the desk and the girl said “You must be Ted” – she had just had my reservation pop up.
There are some real red-necks staying here. This one old guy (nothing wrong with that) who was hanging around with about 4 or 5 bikers. He had on a beater T-Shirt with a pack of cigarettes rolled up in his sleeve and one hanging out of his mouth- he looked like a 65 year-old biker, except that he got into a pickup. The bumper had a sticker with a picture of President Obama and a caption that read: “I is so confused, I just don’t know what to do.” In the interest of health (mine), I chose to ignore it.
I had an actual sit-down dinner at the Guadalajara Mexican Restaurant next door to the motel. It serves “authentic Mexican food”. Well, maybe I am just not used to authentic Mexican food. The chips were crappy. The salsa was almost tasteless. I was never able to get a forkful of my burrito all the way to my mouth without it falling apart. That said – the “Mexican” restaurant Jimmy and I went to in Egypt is still unrivaled at the bottom of my Mexican restaurant list, but this one is firmly in the second-to-the-bottom place.
